ABCO cares about the security of your accounts. In the wake of numerous large-scale data breaches and increasing rates of counterfeit card fraud, ABCO Federal Credit Union has made the decision to reissue all existing ABCO Debit Cards as Chip Cards to better protect you and reduce the costs associated with fraud. This is the next step forward in improving card security.

All ABCO debit cards will be reissued as Chip cards over the summer.

MORE ABOUT CHIP CARDS

Chip cards are payment cards that have an embedded chip. They offer cardholders advanced security when using the chip to pay in store, by making every transaction unique. Chip cards are virtually impossible to counterfeit or copy. If the card data and the one-time code are stolen, the information cannot be used to create counterfeit cards and commit fraud. Chip cards are becoming the industry standard here in the U.S.

Some important points of note:

  • Your new Debit Chip Card will need to be activated from the home or work number on file with the credit union.
  • During the activation process you will need to create a PIN for your new Debit Chip Card (Note: You must create a PIN for your new card even if you would like to use the same PIN you used with your old card).

  • If you currently have a recurring payment with a merchant using your current Visa Debit Card, you will need to contact the merchant and provide them with your new card information.

  • Your current Debit Card will be closed within 30 of receiving your new card.
