ABCO FCU CEO Milton Hershberger Named NJCUL CEO of the Year
By Julia Bernd, Staff Writer

milthershbergerAtlantic City, NJ - At the New Jersey Credit Union League Convention on Monday night, ABCO Federal Credit Union CEO Milton Hershberger was named NJCUL CEO of the year. Milton was recognized for his incredible 53 years of service with ABCO FCU.

"Here at ABCO we are very gratified that Mr. Hershberger’s life long commitment and dedication to the credit union, our membership and our staff has been formally recognized and celebrated. He is genuinely deserving of this distinguished honor," said Christena Day Benson, Executive Vice President.

ABCO Federal Credit Union is one of the largest credit unions in New Jersey with over 30,000 members and $170,000,000 in assets. But that hasn't always been the case.

The origin of the credit union goes back to the 1950s. Milton ("Milt") was then a math teacher in the Burlington Twp. School District. Milt and a few fellow educators started the credit union, which was originally named the Burlington County Teachers' Credit Union. The credit union's first members had to come to his garage to make deposits and take out loans.

Over the past 50 years, Milt (with the help of President Ellen Kuiper, a host of dedicated employees and Board of Director members), has grown the credit union to the financial institution it is today.

If you see Milt out and about, he will likely be donning one of his signature fedoras and he'll give you a big, friendly hello. It is with Milt's spirit and communal values that ABCO FCU strives to serve its members every day.
