One of the purposes of a credit union is to "promote thrift." To accomplish that end, membership is based on a person maintaining the basic minimum deposit (one "share") of the credit union - a $10 deposit to a Share Savings Account. As long as he/she maintains $10 in a Share Savings Account he/she remains a member of the credit union and is eligibile to take advantage of all of the products and services the credit union offers. There are three tiers to the Share Savings Account.
